Merlot variety

Merlot   is a very traditional, popular variety intended for the production of red wines. It probably comes from the French region of Bordeaux, where it was created by crossing the varieties Magdeleine Noire des Charentes and Cabernet Franc.  It probably came to Italy in the 19th century. Ripening   is medium early and ripening is average. It is a vine of medium vitality, generous, with abundant and constant production thanks to good bud fertility and medium average grape weight. Prefers short pruning; With excessively long fruit heads, the phenomenon of blind buds manifests itself. In any case, to achieve high quality production, the number of buds per plant must be limited. It is very sensitive to drought. It is also sensitive to mold, especially mildew

Cabernet Sauvignon variety

Like Merlot, Cabernet franc, Carmen?re, etc. it comes from the Bordeaux area, from where it was probably imported to Italy in 1800. De Secondat, son of Montesquieu, called it "the perfect vine". Budding is late and ripening is medium. It has good vitality, rustic, has an average and constant productivity, with good fertility of basal buds as well. Not very sensitive to botrytis and mildew, sensitive to powdery mildew, acid rot and desiccation.

Why do I like it?

A wonderful wine, an excellent marriage of two important red varieties. Merlot and Cabernet S. has its tradition in the province of Vicenza and the fact that Carlo V. stayed here for a long time and even extended his stay. The winery rightfully dedicated this variety to him.
