Trebbiano is the name of a white variety that is grown in the Abruzzo region, in the eastern part of central Italy. The variety spread to other parts of Italy, but also to France, where it became the basis of Armagnac. There are actually a number of varieties that bear the name Trebbiano, but some are not genetically related. The Trebbiano group share some common features, even if they don't share the same DNA. Characteristic are the white berries that grow in large, long bunches, ripen late and have good adaptability to individual wine regions. The number of forms can be compared to the red variety Sangiovese. Trebbiano is grown throughout Italy, including cold areas.
