Gewürztraminer, also known as Traminer or Red Traminer, is a white grape variety renowned for its intense aroma and rich flavor. Its origin is often linked to the town of Tramin in South Tyrol, although the exact provenance remains uncertain. Wines from this variety are highly valued for their unique bouquet and full body.
Characteristics of Gewürztraminer
- Aroma: Distinct scents of rose petals, lychee, tropical fruit, and spices.
- Taste: Full-bodied and rich with low acidity, often with a hint of sweetness even in dry versions.

- Alcohol content: Usually higher, often around 13–14%.
Gewürztraminer in Italian Regions
In Italy, Gewürztraminer is primarily grown in Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Wines from these regions combine the typical spicy and fruity notes with vibrant freshness, making them very appealing to lovers of aromatic wines.
